Why Choose a Journeyman Roofer?

A certified journeyman roofer has spent time as an apprentice under the leadership of a highly experienced roofer. Through this apprenticeship, the journeyman-in-training learns every aspect of the trade. After being certified, the journeyman is ready to apply these skills in the most professional ways possible.

Having a journeyman roofer on staff ensures your new roof installation, repair or maintenance will go off without a hitch.

The 7 Signs You Need a New Roof or Repair

If you notice any of these seven signs, it may be time to call in a qualified roofer in Medicine Hat, Brooks or Lethbridge:

  1. Shingles are Bowed or Curled— When shingles begin to curl or bow out, they are no longer able to keep water from seeping through the roof. This can lead to wood rot and serious structural issues. If you notice bowed or curled shingles, it’s time for a replacement or repair.
  2. Decayed Shingles— All types of shingles will deteriorate over time. Fortunately, not all shingles will go bad all at once, so there is the option of replacing sections when you notice an area of cracked, peeling, curled, blistered or chipped shingles.
  3. Flashing is Damaged or Missing— Flashing is the metal layer of sheeting that keeps water from seeping in through areas around your sewer vent pipe, roof vent or chimney. It’s not there as a decoration; if you notice missing or damaged flashing, be sure to have it replaced as quickly as possible.
  4. Roof Rot— Due to Southern Alberta’s abundant rainfall, roof rot is a common occurrence. If you notice shingles beginning to flake, change colour or fall off the roof, it’s time to call in a roofer.
  5. Shingles Missing or Damaged in Valleys— Valleys are the areas in the roof where two surfaces meet at an angle. Since water is naturally channeled to this area, it is essential that the valley is installed correctly and the materials (shingles or metal valley) are kept in ideal condition.
  6. Missing Shingles— Missing shingles are an invitation to water damage. If you are missing shingles, call a roofer as soon as possible to have them replaced. It’s better to repair it now than having to replace the underlayment and complete roofing system in the future.
  7. You can See Daylight through the Boards— In the attic, if you can see sunlight through holes in the roof, you should call in a roofer to inspect and repair the roof. For one, this means your home is losing a great deal of energy. Secondly, your home will be highly susceptible to water damage.
